Chillaz is Afrikaburn’s Official Off Centre Camp stage and a platform for all artists, creatives and dreamers to share their gifts with the community. Deep Chill is a shared home space for creatives and artists who are generally 1st time burners. It allows an opportunity to gain a better understanding of Afrikaburn, find a safe space and participate in creating a home for all at Chillaz.

You have received this form because you indicated somewhere along the way that you were keen to be involved with Chillaz at this year’s AfrikaBurn. Please fill it out if you are still interested in the opportunity to camp with Deep Chill and/or to perform at Chillaz.

Commitments

Any collective that exists to create community has commitments that they make to each other and agreements that they uphold. These are some of ours.

Chillaz & Deep Chill are supported by AfrikaBurn, but both spaces are curated and by each person that shows up and commits their time, resources and energy every single day. It is the combination of each of our offerings – our strengths, skills and differences – that turns Chillaz into the unique hub that it is. It is the sum of all of us – that’s where the magic lives.

IMPORTANT: Deep Chill is a home space, and not everyone’s schedule is the same every day. Everyone is expected to be considerate when it comes to noise – especially at night. After a certain time (which we will all agree on together) the camp area will become a quiet zone until the next day. If you are wanting to join an all-night-long-dance-til-the-sun-comes-up-party-til-you-drop type of camp, then Deep Chill is not the right space for you.

Chillaz & Deep Chill Commitments (Please ensure you read all 6 and agree by ticking the boxes)

I understand that if I am camping with Deep Chill I have to commit to doing (at least) 1 camp duty per day
I commit to signing up to (at least) 2 volunteer shifts at Chillaz during the week of AfrikaBurn
I will arrive for all of my shifts sober
I understand that if I miss a shift or arrive in an altered state, I risk not be re-invited back to Deep Chill or Chillaz
I will treat the space, my neighbours and anything that I borrow (including my tent and sleeping area) with respect
I commit to sticking to meal times and quiet times, and understand that if I violate this commitment I may be asked to find another place to camp

Participation

Chillaz Lounge at the Off Centre Camp is open daily from 9.30am. From Monday – Thursday we close between 10 & 11pm, and over the weekend there have been nights where the vibe kept us alive until much later than that…

Each day begins with movement, and from there we flow into a schedule of hosted workshops, cultural exchanges, conversations, craft sessions, live music and jam sessions. At night we shift gears up a notch and host DJ and producers that want to share their tunes and make us groove!
